  • Opening public panel presentation on Wednesday afternoon, 7 September at the University of Ottawa
  • Transportation Kingston-Ottawa-Kingston 7 September
  • Continental breakfast, coffee breaks, lunch and dinner 8 September
  • Continental breakfast, coffee breaks, lunch and dinner 9 September
  • New Transparency business meetings (if applicable), Saturday morning, 10 September
  • Thousand Islands boat cruise and lunch, Saturday afternoon, 10 September

7 September Public Panel Presentation

The public panel presentation (7 Sept), “Liberties Lost?: Surveillance Since 9/11”, will be held at the Alumni Auditorium in the University Centre at the University of Ottawa. It begins at 4:00 pm.

From the airport, take Bus route 97 [OC Transpo], direction Bayshore. Alight at station CAMPUS 2A and walk to the University of Ottawa campus.

A charted coach will depart Kingston for the University of Ottawa in the afternoon on Wednesday September 7 and will return to the Donald Gordon Centre in Kingston following the event.

Participants who must travel by air in order to attend the workshop may wish to fly directly to Ottawa International airport on 7 Sept in time for the panel, and then board the coach to Kingston after the panel (one-way seat). Other participants originating in Ottawa may also board the coach to Kingston after the panel. All other participants should reserve a return trip seat in order to attend the panel. There is no additional charge for the coach.

The workshop will be held at the Donald Gordon Centre (DGC), Kingston, Ontario Canada.

Travel Funding

Some funds are available through The New Transparency project for presenters (both paper and poster) who otherwise cannot obtain support for economy travel and accommodation through their universities or other employers. Please note that if your paper is co-authored, only one author will be eligible for New Transparency funds. Other authors are welcome to attend the workshop with their own funding.

Accommodation

A block of rooms has been reserved for workshop participants at the Donald Gordon Centre (DGC). Rooms at the DGC will be booked on behalf of workshop participants by the workshop organizers. A maximum of three hotel nights may be booked for those receiving NewT funding (international travelers may request four nights). Each guest will be required to provide a credit card upon check-in for incidental charges and room charges, if applicable.

You are encouraged to make your own economy-fare travel arrangements through your own travel agency. If you receive travel funding from NewT, the price of your ticket may not exceed the economy fare quoted by Merit Odyssey Travel, the workshop's preferred travel agency (see contact info below).

Important: If you receive travel funding from NewT, you are required to retain all boarding passes, and passenger tickets/receipts related to your travel to/from the workshop. Please submit these to Joan Sharpe, Project Administrator, when your travel is completed.

Boat Cruise

A boat cruise on the afternoon 10 September is included with your registration. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. The cruise will be approximately 1½ hours and includes lunch.
